A Marketing Research Project Begging
to Be Done – And Important Insights
Waiting to Be Gained


coverAccording to a survey conducted earlier this year by the Medical Group Management Association, 55 percent of medical practices are now hospital owned, up from 50 percent in 2008 and only 30 percent just five years earlier. What does this mean to pharmaceutical marketers and marketing researchers? We don’t exactly know, and therein lies the problem and the opportunity.

The fact that physicians are now almost equally divided between employees and private practitioners adds several new dimensions to the question of whom we should be talking with in our qualitative marketing research and of whom we are talking with in our marketing research.

Assuming most health care marketers and marketing researchers in the United States do not take practitioner employee/independent practitioner status into consideration in their work, this month’s published article for The Orange Pages focuses on why we should, and what we need to do differently to deal with physician-as-employee percentages that will likely increase.
