While the conference focuses on ideas for adapting to the changing business climate, on Wednesday, June 23, Richard B. Vanderveer, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, GfK Healthcare, will provide a radically different approach to rethinking health care with the following presentation:

Health Care Marketing Research in the Years to Come: Not Business as Usual
Dr. Vanderveer will demonstrate that all of health care, not just drug development, public insurance, etc., will need to be totally rethought if health care delivery is to continue at its present level – let alone improve. Changes will need to be disruptive rather than evolutionary, and the results will certainly not be “business as usual.”
In clear contradistinction to the average health care professional’s perspective that patent expiry and lack of new drug introductions are responsible for the turmoil in which the pharmaceutical industry is embroiled, this presentation will leave the audience with the clear understanding of such considerations as:
- The fundamental way health care is delivered, rather than new drugs developed more quickly or sources of insurance coverage shifted, will need to be changed to effect true health care reform.
- More specifically, an estimated 35 percent of health care expenditure is wasted. This waste must be eliminated because we can no longer afford double-digit annual increases in health care costs.
- By way of response, clearly explicated methods for increasing health care effectiveness and efficiency will be described, with focus on electronic patient records, patient persistence and other specific interventions to improve the quality of health care delivered while lowering its cost.
Touching on themes important to all marketing researchers, this presentation will outline the mega-changes that must, and will, occur in health care around the world in the coming decade.
